Blue in Green is a monthly evening of live jazz where the audience is invited to create art during the performances. Our guest this time will be alto saxophonist Martin Hathaway.

Martin Hathaway is a jazz performer, composer and music educator who works with many ensembles covering a wide range of styles. As a performer, he is probably best known for his long associations with the late British jazz pianist / composer Michael Garrick, trumpeter Loz Speyer, and the London Jazz Orchestra. He has also played with Big Bands led by Kenny Wheeler, John Surman / Karin Krog, Stan Sulzmann, Mike Westbrook, Alec Dankworth, Henry Lowther, Pete Hurt, Duncan Lamont, Gabriel Garrick and Keith Nichols, and was a member of the swing orchestra ‘Vile Bodies’. As a small-group jazz performer, Martin has worked alongside many noted UK and international jazz musicians, including Wynton Marsalis, Dave Holland, Dame Cleo Laine, Alec and Jacqui Dankworth, David Friesen, David Liebman, Marcus Roberts, Julian Joseph, Digby Fairweather, Claire Martin, and Jason Rebello, amongst many others.

Martin has also worked as a session musician, recording music for radio, television and film as well as touring and recording with Radiohead. He is a professor of jazz studies and musicianship at the Guildhall School in London (since 1991), and also teaches at City University and Goldsmiths’ College.

Doors open at 7:30 and music from 8, beginning with a warm-up set from the rhythm section (Alex Chalstrey - piano, Cameron Barnett - bass, Adrian Ortman - drums) followed by the main set for which the guest player will join. £5 adv, £8 otd.
