Description

Blue in Green is a monthly night of live jazz music at the Gallery Cafe in Bethnal Green where the audience is invited to make art in response to the performances. Our next show will feature singer/pianist Lara Eidi and trumpeter Charlotte Keeffe. The evening will start with a support set from the house trio (Alex Chalstrey - piano, Refa Wang - bass, Adrian Ortman - drum set) who will then be joined for the main set by the guest artists.

Originally Lebanese-Canadian, Athens born Lara Eidi is a versatile jazz-folk, cross-over vocalist who blends jazz improvisational vocals with the sensitivity of a songwriter, met with the skilled nuances of a Streisand-influenced vocal approach. Once she had honed her skills as a musician and writer, she quickly made a name for herself as a jazz singer and collaborative songwriter in her hometowns of Athens and Beirut. She released two EPs with rave reviews and took her band on tour around Greece, Scotland, and Lebanon. She was praised for having a voice that "was reminiscent of Streisand's clear vocal empathy yet Joni Mitchell in person, something entirely of her own accord" (Broadway Baby, Edinburgh). She has performed in a multitude of key venues, amongst them St Martins in the Field, the Barbican, Milton Court, Pizza Express Dean Street and Sofar Sounds. Just recently she was featured as an up and coming artist for BBC Radio London where she performed and spoke about her upcoming album “In Transition”, set to be recorded later this year. Tonight’s program will showcase a couple of her songs from this album, including “ Damien” which received radio airplay for BBC Radio.

Charlotte Keeffe
's unique approach to trumpet playing and passion for improvised/experimental/jazz music has led her to perform regularly across the UK and internationally. Inspired by the likes of Miles Davis and Polish trumpeter and composer Tomasz Stańko, her own latest project involves exploring and weaving together her compositions inspiring creative freedom through experimental improvisation. Recent performing highlights have included the London Improvisers' Orchestra's 20th anniversary celebrations, depping for trumpeter Yazz Ahmed in Issie Barratt’s all-female collective of composers and musicians 'Interchange' and performances alongside trumpet superstars Henry Lowther and Kim Macari Stone-Lonergan. She has graced the stage at several of the key music festivals including Glastonbury and Wilderness alongside artists such as Liane Carroll, Charlotte Church, Laura Mvula, Kate Nash, Camille O’Sullivan and Will Young.  Charlotte Keeffe has been described by jazz broadcaster Jez Nelson as simply ’excellent’ and her quartet’s performance from Jazz in the Round was featured on his Somethin’ Else radio show on Jazz FM in April 2019.

Doors at 7:30, music starts at 8. Advance tickets £5, OTD £8.
