Description
Since releasing their single ‘While We're Sleeping’ at the end of 2014, Blonde Bunny have kept things under wraps but now seem set to explode. To label the group seems somewhat futile: Blonde Bunny is a truly unique band, existing in their own universe within the UK’s music scene. Ask any member of their growing fanbase how to describe their sound and they’ll likely stutter before settling on “they just sound like Blonde Bunny”.
The charismatic four-piece consists of Toby, Alexander, The RZ and Bigg Wisdom, a family of musical minds in their own right, each lending a commanding presence to the songs. The band write, produce and mix all their music as well as making their own music-videos and artwork, helping to carve out a refreshing new lane.
The music is unashamedly theatrical and has been described as ‘melodramatic pop’. Singer Toby’s expressive vocals soar over a cluster of influences from Jazz and Hip-Hop to Electronic music and Progressive Rock. There is a freedom to the vocals that recall moments of Bowie, Kate Bush, Scott Walker or Joni Mitchell, with a subtle nod to more recent R&B acts.
The urgency to the locked-in grooves of an unbreakable rhythm section drives home a sound that is swimming in melody. The lyrical themes are universal yet somehow sideways, complimenting some hugely inspired guitar-work. Blonde Bunny is a very modern band, performing some warped kind of ‘future pop’. The compositions may be musically complex, but essentially this is music to move crowds. It’s enjoyable, it’s crucial, and it has made their fans into believers – believers in “their band”.
Fan-favourite ‘A Rate’ has seen strong radio support including BBC plays with Steve Lamacq and Tom Robinson. Blonde Bunny have also sold-out headline shows at venues like the Moth Club and Shacklewell Arms.
