Establishing Your Style

Your illustration or artistic style is an essential in establishing your professional credibility. You might think that being able to work in style a, b and c would be an advantage for a freelance illustrator, but the opposite is true. Find out why and how an individual style can be nurtured, developed and made to work for you.

Great that you're up for Style class! Below is info about it.

Course Description

Your illustration or artistic style is an essential in establishing your professional credibility. You might think that being able to work in style a, b and c would be an advantage for a freelance illustrator, but the opposite is true. Find out why and how an individual style can be nurtured, developed and made to work for you.

What we'll Do

Part 1

I have some materials prepared on the subject of style, which we'll look at first. This includes elements of style, the relation of style to methods and materials and how a style is arrived at by an artist or illustrator.

Part 2

We'll focus on students’ work, stylistic aspirations, issues and potential directions. Students will each have individual tutor-time

What to Bring

1. Please bring lots of your work to look at. Sketchbooks, work in progress, your portfolio if you have one, images you've made, both digital and 'real,' even work from the past that maybe you've moved on from. If you have a current project you'd like help with, or you're trying to put together a portfolio, please bring those things along.

2. If you like, bring some examples of styles you admire, or even that you aspire to. This could be on a memory stick, or prints, or we could look at websites you know of.

I have lots of art materials, just in case trying something out or sketching could be part of our exploration, but if there are materials of yours you'd like to bring, please do. Bring your laptop if that would be helpful for accessing images, websites, etc. Alternately, we can use mine. I have exercises you can do while other students work is being reviewed. Or take a break, have a think, come back and have another chat about your style.

Committing to the class

With the small number of students and the brief time between now and when the class runs, it won't be possible to accommodate enrolees who want to change to a different date. If you withdraw from a class up till 10 days before it runs, you'll get a refund of 50% of the class's cost. After that there won’t be a refund.

Flexible activities within our core topic

An advantage of a small class is that people can bring up subjects related to the class topic that they have questions about or are interested in. Or we can modify an activity based on individual interests.

Class duration/cancellation

If there are only 2 students in the class, it will probably end a half-hour early. If only one student is enrolled, the class will probably be cancelled and your money refunded.

If any questions please let me know.Best, Bill

FAQ

  • I have not received my ticket via email. What should I do?

The first thing to do is check your spam/junk filters and inboxes. Your tickets were sent as an attachment and can be thought of as spam by some email services. Alternatively, you can always find your tickets in your Billetto account that you can access in the browsers or the dedicated Billetto app. For more help with this, read here.

  • I wish to cancel my ticket and receive a refund. What should I do?

The approval of refunds is entirely at the event organiser’s discretion, and you should get in contact with the event organiser to discuss what options are available to you. To get in touch with the event organiser, simply reply to your order confirmation email or use the "Contact organiser" form on the organiser's profile. For more help with this, read here.

  • I have registered on the waiting list, what happens now?

If more tickets become available you will be notified (by email) amongst others who have joined the list. Purchasing is on a first-come first-serve basis. For more information, read here.

  • Where do I find a link to an online event?

Check your order confirmation page or order confirmation email. Usually, the organiser of the event provides the details in the order confirmation email or they might send you a follow-up email with a link to their online event. You might also want to read the event description on Billetto where an event organiser should describe how to join the event online. For more information on this, read here.

  • What is refund protection and why would I need it?

Refund Protection provides you with the assurance that if unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances interfere with your ability to attend an event you can claim a refund. For more information on this, read here.
