Join us at Kingston Museum on Saturday 10th July, 18:00-19:30 for Bentalls: The Kingston Department Store since 1867 with Carolynne Cotton.
Bentalls, Kingston’s iconic department store, had its beginnings in the love story of Frank Bentall and Laura Downham in 1867. This talk traces the history of the store from its early beginnings to its dominance in Kingston. The family were firmly in control of the store until the recent sale to the Fenwick’s group. They were never afraid to innovate and this talk illustrates some of the many enterprising, and surprising, ideas they brought in.
Carolynne Cotton is Heritage Supervisor at Kingston History Centre. The History Centre is the archive and local studies centre for the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, based in the Guildhall.
