    Description

On Wednesday 11 October textiles designer Rebeckah Kemi Apara and founder of Embellished Talk; a space to discover textiles through digital content and creative workshops will be teaching and sharing her embroidery skills at the cafe of everybody's dream Palm Vaults in Hackney.

Rebeckah graduated with a degree in Fashion Textiles at the London College of Fashion in 2007 and throughout her time there perfected her skills in screen printing, embroidery and hand beading. She has since worked for Osman Yousefzada during London Fashion Week, Cynthia Rowley, Jill Stuart and Catherine Malandrino during New York Fashion Week. She has collaborated on an embroidery project with GURLS TALK founded by fashion model Adwoa Aboah. She has previously run embellishment workshops at WAH Nails, Boxpark Shoreditch, WeWork, Warehouse and West Elm.

During the evening Rebeckah will teach you how to do French knots, stain, running, star and back stitches using embroidery floss (thread) on plain cotton fabric to begin with; this is so you get the hang of the stitches. We will also play around with stitching on template designs. Once you feel confident you can embroider on a tote or drawstring bag, you're welcome to bring in your own item of clothing to embroider on (t-shirt, jeans, jumpers whatever you like!). Palm Vaults also sell printed t-shirts if you'd like to stitch on that too. Click here to shop their collection.

The workshop is aimed mainly at beginners but all other levels are welcome. It's nice to stitch in company and Palm Vaults is such a perfectly pink space to work in. All materials and equipment will be provided.

What else is included you ask?

A goody bag of sewing treats (1 embroidery hoop, needles, linen and thread) to continue your new skills at home

    Drinks and light refreshments

A break away from your phones and busy schedules. Using your hands to create is therapeutic, confidence boosting and good for your well-being

A good opportunity to learn new skills in an intimate setting that you can develop in your own time and add new personalised life to your clothes or interiors. It’s nice to have something that nobody else has

So you have a high-quality learning experience there’s a maximum of eight people in the workshop led by one teacher Rebeckah and her assistant.
