The Hijab - Is it a Choice or an Obligation?
Please join us for an informal and insightful talk on the Muslim hijab, its historical background and its contemporary proliferation. Hear our special guest Yasmin Amin unveil this topical issue. There will also be time for audience interaction before and after the presentation with an opportunity to share thoughts and ideas. Refreshments will also be available.
About our special guest: Yasmin Amin is currently a PhD student of Islamic studies at Exeter University's Arab & Islamic Institute, researching 'Humour and Laughter in the Ḥadīth'. She obtained a postgraduate diploma in Islamic Studies from the American University in Cairo in 2006 and an MA in Islamic Studies also from the American University in Cairo in 2010. Her research covers various aspects of the early Muslim Society and Culture as well as the original heritage texts of Islamic history, law and Prophetic traditions.
