Up-and-coming London based artist BARLI announced her arrival earlier this year with the i-D led launch of her beautifully hypnotic debut 'Pebbles'. Following up with the enchanting 'Reach for Me', and a VEVO promoted video for the sublimely minimalist 'Vex', BARLI's debut self-titled EP is out now.
Citing Gil Scott Heron and Nina Simone as her major influences, BARLI has crafted a stunningly fresh sound alongside the minimalist production of songwriting partner Ton Epoch. Together the pair successfully melds the subtleties of Air's production with delicately soulful vocals, repeating a loving refrain over soothing harmonies and gentle waves of cymbals.
Aligned with the current canon of soul-infused British female pop, BARLI is firmly at the forefront of 2015 artists to watch and come to Hoxton on 26th January.
“She weaves beautiful harmonies through sweet electronic production and brings instant calm to those that lend their ears" - i-D
“Lying somewhere between electronic minimalism and neo-soul, BARLI pulls down-tempos beat loops and darting synth lines into rank with an enviably commanding boom" - THE LINE OF BEST FIT
“Serene ballads that feel as relaxed as they do mysterious" - DIGITAL SPY
“Sharing Gil Scott-Heron's ability to flex, to shift and evolve, BARLI has a sensitive, poetic side" - CLASH
