A day of films at the Cinema Museum as part of the new UK-wide Aperture: Asia & Pacific Film Festival. A Letter to the President is a London premiere, the other two are UK premieres.
2pm Aqerat (We, the Dead) (Edmund Yeo, Malaysia 2017) - Edmund Yeo's feature film focusing on the migration of persecuted Rohingya to Malaysia won him the Best Director prize at the Tokyo Film Festival 2017.
4.30pm A Letter to the President (Roya Sadat, Afghanistan, 2017) - the first feature film to be directed by a woman in Afghanistan since the fall of the Taliban and provides a powerful and fascinating depiction of life in a society that remains largely unknown to the outside world. Plus short The Streets are Ours: Two Lives Cross in Karachi (Michelle Fiordaliso, Pakistan/US, 2016) - Sabeen Mahmud, founder of the cultural space T2F (The Second Floor) in Karachi, invited Pakistani-Canadian actor, director and producer Fawzia Mirza to perform her one-woman play at T2F.
7pm Fake (Tatsuya Mori, Japan, 2016) - esteemed documentary-maker Tatsuya Mori gets behind the media mirage surrounding the publically-disgraced deaf composer Mamoru Samuragochi, the subject of a massive scandal in 2014 when a former associate claimed that the “Beethoven of Japan” was neither the writer of his compositions nor indeed actually deaf.

The first thing to do is check your spam/junk filters and inboxes. Your tickets were sent as an attachment and can be thought of as spam by some email services.
