With Brexit on the horizon, the Houses of Parliament gridlocked on the issue and another general election potentially just weeks away, join us for an evening in Basildon with the Shadow Leader of the Opposition in the House of Lords, Baroness Angela Smith to debate the most significant issue of our time.
Angela Smith was the first and only female Labour MP to have been elected and serve the people of Basildon. Whilst an MP, Angela served as a Minister for Northern Ireland, the Fire Minister in the department for Communities and Local Government and sat in the Cabinet as the Minister without Portfolio. In 2010 she entered the House of Lords where she held frontbencher responsibilities in the shadow Home Office and Energy and Climate Change teams. She was elected Leader of the Opposition following the 2015 General Election and has inflicted more defeats on the Government than any other Labour politician.
The fabulous Mintoo restaurant will play host for guests to enjoy dinner, raffle and auction as well as having the chance to hear from Angela and ask questions about the future deal between the UK and the EU as well as the future of the Labour Party.
There will be an opportunity for photographs with our guest and a fantastic chance to network with leading political figures from across South Essex.
