Quietus Editor John Doran is celebrating the publication of his first book - Jolly Lad - by going on a 31 date reading tour called An English Trip. He is teaming up with other writers, poets, film makers, musicians and DJs over the course of a month and putting on nights in prisons, churches, libraries, record shops, book stores, village halls, warehouses and cinemas and his musical support on every night of the tour is Kjetil Nernes aka Arabrot, the Norwegian noise rock musician.
The second night of the tour is at Manchester's very own Star & Garter and what a line up there is. Local dark-psych act Ten Mouth Electron describe themselves thus: "We are a pure foal of gold stretched tight among the gleaming like a stinking buzz, all sinewy and unchewable, like." Chaotic post punk outfit ILL say the following: "We are ILL, a band. ILL are experimental, creating music until something tingles and performing dance noise until something bleeds." Arabrot - for one evening only consists of Kjetil as well as Neil & Louise of 2 Koi Karp and Jay Temple of Locean, while Doran reads from his book as well as delivering incantations on black holes, ghosts and Manchester bus time tables. And there's going to be a balearic, cosmic disco, funk rock DJ set to round it all off as well.
