Description
String players of all standards are welcome. Adult learners particularly welcome. Under 18s coming with a responsible adult are very welcome. The event is friendly and supportive; a good place to experience standing up and playing for others. Play something you are learning or are preparing for another event or play something you have played before. The audience is usually small - other performers and a few family and friends.
Bring your accompanist, play solo or in a chamber group. If you do not have an accompanist, please contact me (Carol, swlondonsg@gmail.com) attaching the piano part and expressly allowing me to pass on your contact number or email in case I am able to put you in touch with a pianist. There will be some time at the beginning of the afternoon to rehearse/warm up - particularly good for those who haven't had a chance to rehearse together.
Origins of the event: I was inspired by the amateur piano groups in London to set up a similar group for amateur string players to build experience of performing. My initial thought was that adults have fewer opportunities to perform the works they are learning when compared with school-aged learners who were more likely to have school concerts and or their string teacher's own concerts to play at. While this may be true, I have since come to the view that learners of all ages may welcome the opportunity to perform. We have certainly enjoyed all-age events in the past year.
