Description
Thursday June 28th is a celebration of voice and harmony.
There is little more soothing and beautiful than the simplicity of human voice synchronised in harmonic melodies, telling stores and washing over you. This midsummer concert presents two stylistically different but equally compelling and talented groups.
Akervinda
This impromptu moment of Nordic vocal music is just spine - tingling… Thanks to the new music platform LaLaLa, vocal quartet Åkervinda are bringing their incredible music back to London
Classic FM
'It is wonderful to hear pure voices — so ancient, so eternal, so moving. Their voices and songs resonated with everyone'
Victoria Hofmo, Norwegian American Weekly
In 2013, four singers from Sweden and Denmark came together to form Åkervinda – a vocal quartet who take pride in their original and modern interpretations of Scandinavian folksongs. Their debut album Kara Mor (2014) tells stories of women throughout the ages, “…so eternal, so moving” – Norwegian American Weekly, and take influences from a variety of artists such as Bjork and The Real Group. Jazz singers at heart, the group share a deep love of folk music, and it’s through improvisation that they give new life to traditional Scandinavian folk songs.
The Teacups
Comprising the singing talents of Kate Locksley (Night Fall), Rosie Calvert (Speldosa) and Will Finn, the a capella trio (usually a foursome with Alex Cumming) have been creating a storm across the UK festival circuit in the past few years with critically acclaimed performances at Shepley Spring Festival, Beverley Folk Festival, Warwick Folk Festival, Sidmouth Folk Week, Whitby Folk Week and many more.
Their debut album, 'One For The Pot' explores traditional and contemporary songs from all over the British Isles and beyond with a sensitive and lyrical approach to arrangement. Their second album, 'Of Labour & Love' contains new and original compositions as well as murder ballads, exotic shanties and traditional songs of love and loss, and has been critically acclaimed.
