Description
Two full days of expert tuition in two exciting Long Form styles - THE LIVING ROOM and THE ARKIN.
Are you looking for a new challenge, maybe your group wants to try a new form or you're just a completionist who must know all the things - regardless, we've got two long-form styles that don't see a lot of play in the UK ready for you to learn and perform!
THE LIVING ROOM is a gem of a Chicago-Style show - with the action on stage swinging back and forth between informal conversations between the improvisers and inspired scenes that launch out of the conversations! The relationship between the scenes on the 'stage' and the conversations in 'The Living Room' weaves through the whole show and provides endless possibilities for callback and world-building.
Day One of class, you'll explore two iterations of the show - a classic iteration and a more character driven variation made popular by 'The Recliners' over in North America. Regardless, you'll get a robust understanding of both versions of the form and have a bunch of time to experiment and develop your skills.
Day Two? Oh, let me tell you about day two.
Based around a classic and inspiring exercise from a workshop run by Academy Award winning actor, Alan Arkin - THE ARKIN focuses on initiating two-person scenes with a phenomenally successful process and then let's the improvisers reap the benefits in an exploratory long-form show that builds on Arkin's innovative technique.
Day Two will immerse you in the exercise itself and then apply those principles to long-form play.
That's two days of full-tilt long-form training with a master of these forms - please note, this class is ADVANCED, it is open to graduates of Level Three and Four - but if you haven't played for a while, please check with paul@monkeytoast.com before booking.
What? A weekend of intense long-form training for the advanced improviser. If you're not sure if you're advanced, check before booking.
