“Experimental pop has never flowed quite as smoothly as in the music from the UK duo Acre Tarn.” - Earmilk

“It’s what all electronic music should aspire to.” - Just Music That I like Blog

“Haunting beats and otherworldly (but gorgeous) vocals are the perfect compliment for each other” - The 405

Acre Tarn is the electronic music project from Anna-Louisa Etherington, a singer/producer originally from the lake district. It is this area of origin that imprints on the music which features swirls of rugged and disjointed beats cut into wide and ghostly soundscapes. Sitting above this Anna has a natural tone that can convey a multitude of emotions and reminisces Kate Bush at her most forceful moments.

Debut EP ‘Clasp and Shake’ in 2014 saw Acre Tarn lauded for the EP’s shifting moods and unsettling musical collages, with early support across various blogs including Indie Shuffle, Earmilk, Wonderland and The 405. The EP came with a number of video collaborations from Manchester-based video-jam projects that projected colourful and haunting visuals upon the music. Acre Tarn takes the collaborations further on new track ‘Dawn Faces’, which features a children’s choir and a number of samples recorded in a cave not far from the lake from which Acre Tarn takes its name.

A more direct offering than her previous work ‘Dawn Faces’ sees Anna weave ethereal synths, beats that drive with industrial clatter, and a syrupy bass line into the spaces around a huge attention-grabbing chorus. The result is an explosive statement coming together like a Cocteau Twins track fed through the veins of a Grimes or Little Dragon, and then amplified and resonated further. As somewhat a coming of age from the subtlety of the debut EP ‘Dawn Faces’ is suitably bold and unerring in it’s chorus line ‘Raise our arms outstretched…we’re not children anymore’.
