Description

"Women of a Certain Rage is a thought-provoking show that stays with you long after the final curtain. It’s more than just great theatre—it's an important, necessary conversation that continues to resonate far beyond the stage." Dr. Amy Novack, OB GYN host of podcast Gynocurious

SHOW SYNOPSIS: A romp, a rant, a bloodletting, about living in a female body in the 21st century. A vivisection of the American medical system. Your doctor is in, and he has been diagnosed with white male privilege. Ms. Valentine is filling your prescription for dismantling the patriarchy!

A Woman of a Certain Rage is a righteous menopausal mood swing. This one woman show blends hilarity and heartrending trauma into nothing short of a call to action. Written and performed by NYC actor Kate Valentine.

This 75-minute show has been presented to enthusiastic audiences in New York. We would love to bring it to the U.K. We believe the message of this show is important and timely.

This production utilizes our background in vaudeville and burlesque to tell a harrowing story through a variety show lens. Direct comedic address, physical comedy, dance, and song are employed. Most pointedly, masked Commedia Dell' Arte clowning is used in the portrayal of the male doctors. The doctors are allowed to tell their version of the story.

Artist Bio:

Kate Valentine is one of the instigators of the feminist neo-burlesque movement. The Va Va Voom Room was her weekly variety show running at the beloved cabaret space Fez Under Time Café in NYC. Her hilariously deadpan mistress of ceremonies character Miss Astrid traveled all over the globe entertaining audiences with her quick improvisational wit.

Concurrently, Ms. Valentine wrote and starred in sketch comedy shows and directed and created works of experimental dance theatre. Directing credits include The Terrorism of Everyday Life, which won a Herald Angel Award at the Edinburgh Festival.

The Tom Thumb Theatre: A New Era of Magic by the Sea

Nestled in the heart of Cliftonville, Margate, the Tom Thumb Theatre has long been a beloved artistic gem by the sea. Originally built as a Victorian coach house, it was transformed in 1984 into one of the smallest theatres in the world — a curious and captivating blend of Japanese and Alpine architecture, with velvet seats, flocked wallpaper, and an atmosphere unlike anywhere else.

Now under the creative direction of Allyson Morgan Jones, the Tom Thumb is entering an exciting new chapter, bringing bold, imaginative programming to this beautifully intimate space. Alongside its roots in theatre, comedy, music, cabaret, poetry and film, the theatre is expanding its offering with immersive events, unique experiences, and bespoke private hires, all while continuing to champion emerging voices and experimental work.
