Lute and guitar music of the United Kingdom
Over the centuries, Britain has produced and inspired a wealth of music. In addition to its indigenous musicians, Britain’s landscape and literature have inspired composers from around the world. This concert will include lute music by Dowland, Johnson and Robinson and works for guitar by Sor, Mertz and Pratten ranging from meditative medieval melodies to tumultuous Victorian tone-poems.
Please join us for a wonderful evening in the atmospheric setting of thousand-year-old St Lawrence's Ancient Church.
Refreshments available during the interval.
Doors open 7pm
All profits go to the upkeep of the building through the Guild of Friends of St Lawrence's Church.

Jamie Akers
Described by The Independent as, “a superb player,” Jamie Akers has made a career from exploring the forgotten riches of music history. From music by women composers to the rich heritage of the Eastern European guitar, Jamie has given voice to neglected works and unappreciated voices. He has performed throughout Europe, Australia and the USA, broadcast widely and recorded numerous albums as a soloist, accompanist and chamber musician playing on period instruments. Jamie studied at the Royal College of Music and is a lecturer at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
