1. Listening skills + Planning process

Feb 27 2020 10:00 - 16:00

Urban Room, 38 Carrington St, NG1 7FG Nottingham

Why is this necessary?

The role of officers and designers will radically change in the near future as national and local planning policies are progressing towards a more inclusive and open planning system, with significantly increased community involvement and empowerment. Emerging national policy will soon put community engagement at the heart of the planning process, at all stages of design.

In preparation for this change, Nottingham City Council has recently launched the Community Engagement Guide, which states the city’s ambitious expectations regarding public involvement in design and planning processes.

During this session, you will learn:

LISTENING SKILLS

  • How to listen effectively and efficiently

  • What are the optimum conditions for good listening

  • Develop an ability to ask powerful questions that build positive relationships

PLANNING PROCESS

  • Basic understanding of the planning process

  • Who is involved at each planning stage

  • What are the opportunities for communities to become involved in planning processes
